This morning, at 9 PST the time has come again: Steve Jobs starts the new Mac-Year with his traditional keynote at the beginning of the Apple centric fair and conference MacWorld in San Francisco. Even back in 1986, when introducing the legendary Mac, Steve celebrated his performance like a rock star – and we’ll get a real show act today, too.
Today it’s remarkable that this time even the Apple homepage is pointing it’s attention straight to the San Francisco event. The Apple marketing strategists sent out a cryptic but promising slogan “2008. There’s something in the air …”. The upgrade of the MacPros probably wasn’t spectacular enough for Steve – so this info was released last week.
So we only can wait and read what all the busy bloggers in the auditorium of the keynote will report – like the colleagues from macrumorslive.com – thanks to built in Airport. Hopefully we can hear the legendary sentence of Steve: “… there is one more thing!”

In the afternoon (PST) Apple.com will provide a streamed version of the keynote speech.

We had to wait for some more days after the quad-core Adobe CS3 promotion. But now, the new MacPros are here – and the flagship model is equipped with two – long awaited – quad-core Intel Xeon processors. It looks like Apple is starting to focus on the number of cores and not the number of processors anymore. When the number of cores is increasing only communicating the total number of cores is less confusing for everybody. Sure, there are several technological differences between one quad-core and two dual-core processors – and there is also quite a difference in performance. But Apple already decided to change their communication ;-)
Now, we can be anxious to the benchmarks of the new quad-core Macs. And we probably don’t have to wait too long: The U.K. Apple Store says – ready to ship in 2 days. Quite interesting, that you can get a Mac OS X Server 10-client licence without additional costs. In the US it you still have to pay 499$. A bug or a feature?

The new Apple and Adobe promotion for the Intel Mac optimized Creative Suite 3 reveals that quad-core Intel Macs are on the way: "Every new Mac features powerful dual-core or quad-core Intel processors, the world’s most advanced operating system, and more." That sounds pretty well for all ressource consuming users of Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator, Flash, Premiere or After Effects. But when will these quad-core Macs be available?

Update: The text within the US and the UK store as been changed to "dual-core or quad-core Intel processing", although the German version still says "Dual-Core oder Quad-Core Intel Prozessoren". Looks, like a back padelling manover, to argue that two dual-core processors means quad-core processing. Let’s see what is coming next ;-)

Update 2: The German version has been changed to "Dual-Core oder Quad-Core Intel Prozessoren". So, we have to wait for the official announcement of the quad-core Macs we eagerly await …
